Madrid

La Movida Madrilena

1 Jan to 01 Jan

Madrid is big, cosmopolitan and full of entertainment. Compared to most Spanish cities, it has a more recent history but with a rich heritage, otherwise it wouldn't be the capital, largest city in Spain and the third largest city in Europe.

Its buildings, streets, palaces and museums are impressive and the madrileños amaze with their contagious energy. Stroll down to the Puerta del Sol, the most emblematic site and stage of the main celebrations of the city, scroll down the Gran Via which is the "Broadway Madrileña" and cross the Plaza Mayor, perhaps the most visited place in the city with a beautiful royal building. For art lovers, it is mandatory to visit the Museum of Prado, Museum Reina Sofia and Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza.

Admire the four gates of the city, Alcalá, Toledo, Hierro and the Real, and visit the magnificent Royal Palace. For shopping, go to the Mercado El Rastro or the Salamanca District. The Santiago Bernabeu Stadium is a must-see for football and Real Madrid lovers. Taste the famous tapas in the trendy Mercado de San Miguel and, in the evening, enjoy the terraces of St. Anne's Square or have fun in the Chueca, La Latina and Huertas districts.
