The Garden of the Atlantic

1 Jan to 01 Jan

The sympathy, the landscape of exuberant natural beauty and the mild climate are just some of the attractions of this island. In the Atlantic, the flowery Island of Love delights those who go there with its colours, scents and tastes.

Start with the city of Funchal with so much to discover. Go up the hill by cable car and go down in the famous basket cars. Visit the farmers market in the historic centre and enjoy the buildings, gardens and museums. In Cabo Girão you'll have the highest promontory on Europe and an amazing view.  Go around the island and sunbath in Calheta's beach, dive in the Porto Moniz's natural pools and go on an adventure in the famous levadas. In Santana, you can also visit the traditional houses from Madeira, the historical city of Machico and the "Tern's Natural Reserve".

The cuisine is varied, always with fresh fish, quality meat and a delicious typical confectionary. Taste the swordfish fillets, the famous kebab on a laurel stick or the typical "Bolo do Caco". Have it with a Madeira wine and cool off with the traditional Poncha. Evening entertainment is guaranteed! Have fun at the Casino da Madeira, walk through Funchal centre or enjoy the atmosphere in one of the many terraces of the city. If you have the opportunity, spend the New Year's Eve on this island that hosts a spectacular party, known for marking the last day of the year in everyone's memory.
