Budapest

From medieval to cosmopolitan

24 May to 24 May

Considered by many the "Paris of the East", Budapest is both beautiful and magnificent as picturesque. Because of its flinty history and traces that it has left, many are still unaware of the charm of this city, which undeservedly is not in the spotlight like Prague or Vienna.

In the Pest side, the impressive Hungarian Parliament is reflected on the Danube River and contains magnificent treasures, but also stands out the beautiful St. Stephen's Basilica and Ferenc Deák square. Stroll, ride the ferris wheel and race through the streets that will get you to the river. Admire the buildings and the National Opera, which competes in beauty with their counterparts from Paris, Vienna or Dresden, in the luxurious Andrássy Avenue. Visit the Heroes' Square and the City Park, with buildings of various ages, and relax in the Széchenyi spa, located there. Scroll through the lively Vaci Street, ideal for shopping, to the Central Market where you can taste various Hungarian delicacies like Goulash and buy typical souvenirs. Visit the Synagogue and explore the Jewish Quarter. At night it is required to have a drink in one of the famous Ruin Pubs like Szimpla, so characteristic and charming!

Walk through the famous Chain Bridge to the Buda side and go up by funicular to the majestic Palace of the Habsburgs, through the Fishermen's Bastion and the unique Church Mattyás. As less touristy alternative to Szecheny baths, you can choose the Gellért spa, set in the complex of a hotel. Go up the hill with the same name to reach the Citadel, where the view of the river and the city is fantastic! Between Buda and Pest, is Margaret Island, where you can find fabulous gardens, parks, fountains and terraces. It is worth to visit the Museum of Fine Arts, the National Museum and the House of Terror, and be sure to take a cruise on the Danube to enjoy the beautiful illuminated banks of the river!
